Utility Assistance Programs
Your local Red Cross provides emergency financial assistance to people who are experiencing difficulty paying utility bills. Assistance is not intended to relieve individuals of their responsibilities, but is meant to assist them while they develop practical plans for meeting their own needs. Utility assistance programs are funded by:
-
Tax deductable contributions from local residents made with their utility payments
-
Donations sent directly to the Greater Salt Lake Area Chapter
-
And generous donations from utility employees and stockholders
How To Get Assistance
During the winter months, if you are seeking assistance for utilities you must first contact the HEAT program at 801-521- 6107. The website for Heat is http://housing.utah.gov/seal/heat.html
If you have a shut off notice, you may go to the HEAToffice in your area.
The American Red Cross can help with Rocky Mountain Power, Questar, Salt Lake City Water and Riverton City Water bills. Assistance is for people who are 60 years or older, or on permanent disability and all applicants must be low income.
If you have already worked with HEAT and still need Red Cross assistance please contact your local Red Cross Chapter at 801-323-7000, leave your name and a daytime number and a Red Cross caseworker will call you to determine your eligibility and to make an appointment for you. Due to high demand, we can not accept walk-in applicants without an appointment.
